Plug into a Wireless Network!
Everyday, more and more wireless networks are set up, as a second or third PC (usually a notebook computer) is added to a household. Wifi is fast becoming the standard that allows these devices a way to share an internet connection, and communicate with each other. If you've ever had to copy files to a diskette, or burn them to a CD-ROM in order to transfer them to a computer on the other side of the room, then you're sure to appreciate the ease of just putting whatever you want in a shared folder. Then files of any size are available to every computer in your house.
Since laptops have fallen below the $1,000 mark, they have become common sights in homes, offices and schools. But what good is a mobile computer if you have to remain tethered to a cable? Enabling wi fi may mean learning how to deal with things like a router, a USB network adapter, etc. And once you're networked, keeping it secure is crucial. On the face of it, setting up a system may not seem like a task for the faint-hearted.
Many people shy away from learning how to connect their computers, with all the confusing jargon and technical terms. Fortunately, it's easier than ever these days to set up a LAN. Connecting an adapter is often a matter of plugging it in, and letting it do all the hard work for you. If you have a computer or printer without a built-in 802.11 g access point, it's just a matter of getting a network card, and away you go.
And strong security is also possible without an advanced degree in programming. A proper networking setup incorporates powerful encryption and built-in firewalls, to make sure your home network is shielded from prying eyes. Wireless communication does not have to be open to the world. Many times you can surf the web from almost anywhere in your house as securely as with a cable.
We have all the equipment you'll need to set up your own networking center in our online store. And if you want to learn more about some of the devices, you can click on the navigational links in the left-hand column.
